Fedrigoni 366

Design for Fedrigoni’s annual collaboration with UK-based creatives

Fedrigoni 366, designed by TM for Fedrigoni UK, is an annual project open to designers, illustrators and other creatives. Each designer must visually represent their assigned date, with all entries compiled into a calendar.

I was assigned August 4th to interpret and created a range of possible designs for the brief ranging from simple representations of the number four to interpretations based on important events or people. Initial designs included trying to incorporate a raindrop shape into the number four to represent Prince’s Purple Rain reaching number one for the first time on August 4th 1984, and creating two isometric fours by colouring stars of the US flag reference the presidency of Barack Obama, the 44th US President, who was born on this day in 1961.

My final submission was a representation of the number four created using overlapping semi-circles which allowed me to use a range of colours from the assigned colour palette to try and show this visually.

In 2024, TM and Fedrigoni partnered with printer F.E. Burman to use the latest HP Indigo printing technology, allowing the project to harness the power of generative design. The result means that every design submitted looks different in every book, no two copies of the calendar are the same. The resulting designs have been printed onto a variety of paper stocks from the Fedrigoni collection.

The cover wrap of each book is also removable and unfolds to reveal a poster showing a variety of randomly generated designs for a given day.
